9Props can create resistance, support, feedback, connection, and challenge—but only when the instructor knows why they’re using them. The goal isn’t to fit as many props as possible into one class. The goal is to choose the right tool for the intention of the routine. Need a mentor or want to become an instructor ? Dm me or @ bod.Pilates on Instagram for more info

8A strong Pilates instructor doesn’t just choose exercises — they understand the why, plan with intention, read the room, offer modifications, create thoughtful transitions, cue with clarity. Before class ask yourself: Did I just teach — or did I actually coach ? Save this for your next class plan 🤎 bod. | modern Pilates education

Unpopular opinion: Teaching is already a full-time job—cueing, watching form, offering modifications, managing timing, and making sure every client feels supported and safe. When people pay to take your class, they deserve your attention. Creating content is sometimes part of the job, too—but your content session should be separate from their workout. Your workout is not the same as teaching. 🤎
Modern Pilates isn’t “not Pilates” — it’s Pilates, evolved. Follow: @Bod.pilates on IG The principles still matter: control, alignment, intention, breath, strength, and quality of movement. Modern mat and modern reformer simply apply those foundations through updated programming, contemporary movement patterns, different equipment, and the way people train today. Pilates has never existed in a vacuum. Movement evolves. Education evolves. Equipment evolves. Teaching evolves. Modern doesn’t mean careless. It doesn’t mean random choreography. And it definitely doesn’t mean we forget the foundation. It means we understand the foundation well enough to build on it. That’s exactly what we teach at bod. — modern mat + reformer education rooted in the why behind the movement. the standard is rising. bod. bod. | modern Pilates education
Pilates instructors… 5 seconds should actually mean 5 seconds 😭 I know “5 more seconds” turning into 20 has become an instructor joke, but your clients are trusting your cues. If you say 5 seconds, count 5 seconds. If you want them there longer, tell them that. Clear timing builds trust, helps clients pace their effort, and makes your coaching feel intentional — not random. You can challenge your clients without lying about the countdown 🤎 bod. | modern Pilates education Wearing @Aritzia

Here are a few of mine 👀 (It’s just a preference, don’t come at me) 1. No modification cues: Not every body needs the same version of a movement. Give people options so they can adjust based on what they need that day. 2. Not explaining what the move is working: Clients shouldn’t have to guess what they’re supposed to feel. A quick cue can completely change how intentionally they move. 3. When 10 seconds is definitely not 10 seconds: If you say 10 seconds, make it 10 seconds. Unpredictable hold times don’t automatically make a class more effective. 4. “If someone drops, we’re starting over.”: Movement shouldn’t be punishment. If someone needs to stop, modify, or take a break, they should be able to without feeling guilty. 5. No water refill station: This one is personal 😂 I’m a water snob. A girl needs to stay hydrated — especially during/ and after class. What’s your Pilates pet peeve? bod. | modern Pilates education
somewhere along the way, the things i used to talk about doing became the things i actually do. My brand. the work. the risks. the ideas i stopped waiting for permission. still building. still learning. still nowhere near done.
Discipline ≠ Punishment As Pilates instructors, our job is to make sure the people in front of us are moving safely and effectively — not to make them feel punished for listening to their body. We don’t know what someone walked into class carrying that day. Maybe they barely slept. Maybe they’re sore. Maybe they tweaked something yesterday. Maybe something started hurting during class. Maybe that hour is the one place they came to reset. And now they’re being made to feel like the entire room is being punished because they needed a break? Challenge is part of training. Shame doesn’t need to be. Instead, try cues like: “Stay with me as long as your form stays strong.” “Take the modification before you lose the movement.” “If you need to reset, reset — then come right back in.” “Give me your strongest version, not your messiest version.” “Form first. Intensity second.” A good instructor knows how to push the room without taking away someone’s ability to listen to their own body. bod. | Modern Pilates Education #pilates #modernpilates
Needing constant breaks doesn’t mean the move is effective. We’ve started to associate shaking, burning, collapsing, and needing to stop with a “good” exercise. But intensity and effectiveness are not the same thing. And I see this constantly with props. Bands. Balls. Weights. Sliders. Ankle weights. Before adding a prop, ask yourself: what’s the why? Is it creating more resistance? Providing feedback? Increasing stability demands? Helping with alignment? Progressing the exercise toward a specific goal? Or are we adding it simply because it makes the movement feel harder? A prop should have a purpose. A progression should have a purpose. And an exercise shouldn’t need to completely exhaust someone to be effective. bod. | modern Pilates education
Our job as instructors is to command the room & make sure everyone is performing each move safely and effectively. Being a good instructor isn’t just about knowing the exercises — it’s about watching, understanding, adapting, and leading. • It’s okay to correct form. • It’s okay to stop someone and reset their position. • It’s okay to offer a modification even if they didn’t ask for one. • It’s okay to give different cues to different bodies. • It’s okay to walk around the room instead of teaching from one spot. • It’s okay to prioritize control over keeping up with the beat. • It’s okay to regress a movement when the foundation isn’t there yet. • And it’s okay to be confident in your knowledge. Your clients aren’t paying you just to count reps. They’re trusting you to see them, coach them, challenge them, and keep them safe. That’s the difference between leading a workout and being an instructor. 🤎 bod. | modern Pilates education
