31 days of Down Syndrome 💛💙 Day 8 💛💙 Maybe the world doesn’t need Molly to change. Maybe we all need to be a little bit more like Molly. She dances like nobody’s watching, laughs without holding back, loves with her whole heart and is completely, unapologetically HERSELF. No worrying about what people think. No trying to fit in. Just living life and loving every minute of it. And honestly, isn’t that the kind of freedom we all wish we had? We spend so much of our lives worrying about being accepted, when maybe the real happiness comes from simply being ourselves. Molly, never stop being YOU. And a huge thank you to the amazing teachers at Purple Door for giving Molly and her friends with down syndrome the confidence and freedom to express themselves. The world could do with a little more Molly in it. @downsyndromedub #bemoremolly #downsyndromeawareness #unapologeticallyyou #inclusionmatters byrhonax
THIS IS YOUR SIGN... If you're the parent who's constantly juggling a million things... The woman who puts everyone else's needs before her own... The one with a never-ending to-do list, a busy mind and barely five minutes to herself... When was the last time you made YOU a priority? I know how easy it is to forget about yourself when life gets overwhelming. Believe me, I've been there. Focus CBD Oil is part of my own daily self-care routine. It's my little reminder to take a moment for myself, even on the busiest days. If you've been curious about CBD but don't know where to start, let's have a chat. Comment FOCUS below and I'll send you my guide explaining what CBD is, how it's used and what you should know before trying it. Maybe this is your sign to start putting yourself back on your own priority list. #focusbyrhonax #cbdoil #selfcareformums #busyparentlife #selfcare
It's funny looking back at this video now, knowing what I know today. When I made this, I'd just come out of yet another toxic relationship. I was absolutely penniless, had no car and, to be fair, hadn't a clue how I was going to get myself back on my feet. But I was still smiling. Still believing. Still trying to convince myself that better days were coming, even though I couldn't see how. And believe me, there were plenty of moments when I thought, seriously Rhona, how the hell have you ended up here again? But here's the part that still gets me. Just THREE weeks after making this video, I met John. The love of my life. And slowly, life started to look very different. Not some perfect fairytale, because we all know life doesn't work like that. But a normal, happy, secure life with someone who loves me for me. Something I'd wanted for so long but, if I'm being truthful, wasn't always sure I'd ever have. I'm 53 now and I can tell you, I've made some spectacular mistakes along the way. Some decisions I'd happily never repeat! But I wouldn't be the woman I am today without everything I've been through. And that's why I always say, please don't think because you're a certain age, or because life hasn't worked out the way you imagined, that this is all there is for you. It isn't. You can find love again. You can start over. You can lose everything and still find your feet. I know, because I've been there. And sometimes, when you think your whole world has fallen apart, you haven't a clue what's waiting just around the corner. Three weeks. That's all it took for my story to start changing. So if you're in that place right now where you're wondering will things ever get better, I hope this gives you a little bit of hope. You never know what's around the corner. And thank God I didn't give up on myself. Rhona x #startingoverat50 #womenover50 #mindsetmatters #nevertoolate #byrhonax
What an absolutely fantastic morning at the Mums and Tots Awards! I am beyond honoured and emotional to have been chosen as Mum of the Year. As I said in my speech today... Do I think I'm the best mum in the world? Absolutely not. Do I have all my shit together? Not a chance! Do I have days when I'm overwhelmed, exhausted and wondering how I'm going to get through the day? Absolutely! But... Am I my children's biggest advocate? 100%. Will I fight for them, stand up for them and make sure their voices are heard? Every single time. Will I push them to believe in themselves, even when the world tells them they can't? Absolutely. Do I remind them every single day how strong, capable, beautiful and amazing they are? You bet I do. And will I continue to be the strength behind them until they recognise the incredible strength they have within themselves? For as long as I live. Because that's what motherhood means to me. It's not about raising perfect children or being a perfect mother. It's about raising children who believe in themselves, who know their worth and who have the confidence to stand tall in a world that won't always make things easy for them. My greatest achievement will never be what I do for my children. It will be watching them realise what they can do for themselves. So today, I proudly accept this award. Not because I'm a perfect mum, because there's no such thing. But because I will never stop being the strength behind my children's strength. And to every mum out there who is exhausted, doubting herself or wondering if she's doing enough... You don't have to be a perfect mum to be an incredible one. Thank you so much to Mums and Tots for this wonderful honour. It means more than you'll ever know. Rhona x #mum #mumsawards #specialneedsmum #motherhood #mumsoftiktok

From Baby of the Year to Mum of the Year… six years later! In 2020, my beautiful Molly won Baby of the Year at the Mums & Tots Awards. But because of COVID, we never got to experience the actual awards ceremony. Tomorrow, six years later, I'll be proudly collecting my Mum of the Year award! And yes, in true Rhona style, I'll be rushing in between a million other things, but I wouldn't miss it for the world! Being a mum to my three incredible children is my greatest achievement. It hasn't always been easy, but I wouldn't change our journey for anything. To be recognised for something so close to my heart is truly an honour. What a beautiful full-circle moment for Molly and me. #mumofyear #mumsandtotsawards #specialneedsmum #motherhoodjourney #byrhonax
💙💛Day 5 of 31 Days of Down Syndrome.💛💙 You see Molly now, full of character and mischief. These videos show a part of her story you might not know. Molly was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a heart condition, and needed two open-heart surgeries. Did you know that around half of babies with Down syndrome are born with a congenital heart condition? That means a condition affecting the heart that is present from birth. Early heart checks help doctors identify these conditions, and advances in treatment have made a huge difference to children’s lives. Thankfully, Molly’s second surgery was successful, and she is doing so well. She still has regular checks with her heart team and may need stents in the future. We keep a close eye on her, especially when she’s unwell, but today she is healthy, happy and very busy being Molly. Looking back at these videos, I’m so grateful to everyone who cared for her and helped get her here. If you’re a parent beside a hospital bed, waiting for news about your child, I’m sending you so much love. Every child’s journey is different, but I hope Molly’s story brings you a little comfort. Please share to help more people understand this part of Down syndrome. #downsyndromeawareness #downsyndrome #tetralogyoffallot #congenitalheartdisease #mollyandfriends
What a morning. Molly and I were on KCLR FM this morning with Brian Redmond, and he was absolutely fantastic with her. We laughed, we chatted, and most importantly, we got to talk about why Molly & Friends means so much to me. Listen to full interview here https://share.transistor.fm/s/24a62817 This isn’t just a colouring book. Think about when children first start colouring - at home, in crèche or in school. They’re learning about the world around them through the pictures they see. So why shouldn’t those pictures include everyone? Children with Down syndrome. Children who use wheelchairs or crutches. Children with hearing aids. Children with autism. Children who communicate differently. And children without disabilities too - all playing, learning and having fun together. Because that IS normal life. I want children to grow up seeing different abilities and disabilities as completely normal. Not something that needs to be explained when they’re older. Not something that makes another child “different”. That’s what Molly & Friends is about - normalising inclusion from the very beginning. The book is now available to pre-order and officially launches on 18th October. Pre-order here: https://focusbyrhonax.com/products/molly-friends-colouring-book-where-everyone-belongs-pdf-download I would genuinely love your support with this one. Buy a copy for your child, grandchild, school or crèche - or simply share this post and help us get this message into more homes. Because the children colouring these pages today will grow up alongside children of all abilities tomorrow. Let’s make inclusion something they never have to be taught - because it’s simply what they’ve always known. dm me for link for book #inclusionmatters #mollyandfriends #downsyndromeawareness #inclusiveeducation #everyonebelongs
31 DAYS OF DOWN SYNDROME 💙💛 DAY 4 💛💙 DID YOU KNOW? Down syndrome is a genetic condition. Most people have 46 chromosomes arranged in 23 pairs. In the most common form of Down syndrome, there is an extra copy of chromosome 21 - which is why you’ll often hear it called Trisomy 21. Sometimes awareness starts with simply understanding the facts. 31 Days of Down Syndrome - one little fact at a time. Follow for more #downsyndrome #downsyndromeawareness #trisomy21 #inclusionmatters #everyonebelongs
💙💛DAY 3 OF 31 DAYS OF DOWN SYNDROME 💛💙 DID YOU KNOW? Many babies with Down syndrome are born with hypotonia - or low muscle tone. This video still gets me every time. Molly was almost four years old here, and this was one of the first times she stood independently. But look at Joshua. Her big brother, who is autistic himself, knew exactly how big this moment was. Joshua was non verbal til 3 so this video is especially special The way he encourages her. The way he watches her. And that little celebration when she does it. He was so proud of his little sister. What you don't see in this tiny clip are the years of physio, the special supportive suits and seating, and all the work that went into helping Molly build the strength she needed. Hypotonia is common in children with Down syndrome. It means the muscles have lower resting tone, which can make milestones such as sitting, standing and walking take longer. It can also affect the muscles around the mouth and tongue, which is one reason some children with Down syndrome may have their tongue resting outside their mouth more often. So when you see a child reach a milestone that might seem small to somebody else, remember - you may be watching the result of years of work. And on this day, nobody understood that better than her big brother. Nearly seven years later, she's still proving that she'll do things in her own time, in her own way. #downsyndromeawareness #downsyndrome #hypotonia #inclusionmatters #siblings

Replying to @crazy.ni.chick THIS WAS HILARIOUS!! FEEL FREE TO ANNOY THE SHIT OUT OF HER!!
Sometimes I sit in the car for an extra five minutes. Not because I’m avoiding going inside. Not because I’ve somewhere else to be. Because nobody needs anything from me in the car. Nobody is calling “Mam.” Nobody needs a lift, an appointment sorted, something signed, something found or something remembered. It’s just quiet. And as a busy mum, especially when you’re constantly juggling everyone else’s needs, those few minutes can feel like a little moment for yourself before you walk back through the door and it all starts again. I’ve learned that looking after myself doesn’t have to mean disappearing off to a spa for three days. Although I certainly wouldn’t object. Sometimes it’s five quiet minutes in the car. Sometimes it’s saying no. And for me, sometimes it’s my little Focus routine that I’ve built into my day. Focus Oil is one of those small things I choose to do for myself, in amongst everything I do for everybody else. No big promises. No pretending life suddenly becomes less chaotic. It’s simply part of my own daily routine. If you’re curious about Focus and want to know more, comment FOCUS below and I’ll send you the information. And please tell me I’m not the only one who sits in the car for five minutes before going inside? #mumsofinstagram #busymum #mumlife #specialneedsparent #specialneedsfamily

31 DAYS OF DOWN SYNDROME 💙💛 DAY 2 💛💙 IF I COULD GO BACK TO THE DAY MOLLY WAS BORN, I’D TELL MYSELF THIS… Don’t be afraid of her future. Day 2 of my 31 Days of Down Syndrome, and today I wanted to show you a little bit of Molly’s journey. From that tiny baby in my arms, through everything she has faced and overcome, to the 10-year-old standing in front of me today. There have been challenges. There have been moments I worried about things that hadn’t even happened yet. But there has also been so much laughter, mischief, determination, achievement, friendship, fun and ordinary family life. And now? She’s growing into this incredibly confident, independent young lady who knows exactly who she is – and usually exactly what she wants! Her life isn’t a story of Down syndrome. It’s Molly’s story. Down syndrome is simply one part of it. And at 10 years old, there are still so many chapters she hasn’t even written yet. If I could speak to the Rhona holding that little baby all those years ago, I think I’d simply say: “Stop trying to see the whole road ahead. Just love her, believe in her and let her show you who she’s going to become.” Because her diagnosis was never going to write her story. She was. Rhona x #downsyndromeawarenessmonth #downsyndrome #inclusionmatters #everyonebelongs #mollyandfriends
31 DAYS OF DOWN SYNDROME – DAY 1 The first thing I want you to know about Down syndrome has nothing to do with Down syndrome. “This is Molly." She’s ten years old. She loves football, basketball, performing, being with her friends, and she has absolutely no problem telling the rest of us exactly what we should be doing. Molly also has Down syndrome. But that’s only one part of who she is. It doesn’t define her. So for Day 1 of my 31 Days of Down Syndrome, this is probably the most important thing I want you to remember: See the person first. Get to know them. Talk to them. Include them. And never assume what somebody can or can’t do just because they have Down syndrome. She’s Molly first. And trust me, you’re going to get to know plenty more about her over the next 31 days.

John asked me to get on the bouncy castle with Molly, and before he had even finished the sentence, I said, “No, I can’t.” Then I realised…I can. When I was 24 stone, I became very good at pretending I didn’t want to do things before anyone discovered that I couldn’t. I was afraid I would burst the bouncy castle, that the garden chair would break, or that I wouldn’t fit into a ride—because once, I didn’t. I would bring my niece and pretend I didn’t like heights. The truth was, I was embarrassed. That’s the part nobody teaches you after weight-loss surgery. Your body can change before your mind catches up. So I stopped, got onto the bouncy castle and jumped around with Molly. And I had the best time. Sometimes, after years of saying “I can’t,” you have to stop and ask yourself… “Can I now?” #weightlossjourney #weightlosstransformation #weightlosssupport ##gastricbypass #bariatric
After 30 years as a makeup artist, you’d expect my bathroom cabinet to be bursting with skincare products. It isn’t. I use one product consistently: Repair Skin Oil by Rhona x Made with pure organic Irish-grown hemp seed oil, it has become my simple evening skincare routine and my little bit of self-care at the end of a busy day. I don’t want ten different serums, three eye creams and a routine that needs its own timetable. I want one quality product that leaves my skin feeling soft, nourished and cared for. After working with skin for three decades, I’ve learned that using more products doesn’t necessarily mean getting more from your skincare. Sometimes simple really is best. You can learn more about Repair Skin Oil and order yours on my page or pm me for details #focusbyrhonax #repairskinoil #irishskincare #matureskin #simpleskincare
2This one is huge for me. Being named a finalist for the Changemaker Award at the IMAGE Mother Awards means more than I can properly put into words. One of my biggest goals this year was not simply to talk about inclusion, but to create real change through it. Through the VSP (Very Special Person) Programme, I am helping businesses create more welcoming and understanding experiences for people with additional needs and their families. Through my new inclusive colouring book, “Molly & Friends Everyone Belongs”, I want children with different abilities, communication styles and sensory needs to see themselves represented, included and proud of who they are. This work comes from my own life as a mum of three children with additional needs. I know how powerful it is when someone makes the effort to include your child, and how painful it can be when they do not. Winning the Changemaker Award would help me take this work further and reach more families, businesses and communities. Being recognised alongside these incredible finalists already means so much, but this is a change I am determined to keep making. Thank you to whoever voted for me ...I really appreciate it Rhona x #imagemotherawards #changemakeraward #inclusionmatters #vspprogramme #byrhonax
