💙💛Day 5 of 31 Days of Down Syndrome.💛💙 You see Molly now, full of character and mischief. These videos show a part of her story you might not know. Molly was born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a heart condition, and needed two open-heart surgeries. Did you know that around half of babies with Down syndrome are born with a congenital heart condition? That means a condition affecting the heart that is present from birth. Early heart checks help doctors identify these conditions, and advances in treatment have made a huge difference to children’s lives. Thankfully, Molly’s second surgery was successful, and she is doing so well. She still has regular checks with her heart team and may need stents in the future. We keep a close eye on her, especially when she’s unwell, but today she is healthy, happy and very busy being Molly. Looking back at these videos, I’m so grateful to everyone who cared for her and helped get her here. If you’re a parent beside a hospital bed, waiting for news about your child, I’m sending you so much love. Every child’s journey is different, but I hope Molly’s story brings you a little comfort.
