Stewed apples to give your gut a little extra love this fall!!!!🍎✨ The benefits are truly endless: - Rich in pectin (a soluble fiber that feeds beneficial gut bugs) - Supports production of SCFA's like butyrate (fuel for colon cells, so anti-inflammatory, supports gut lining health, & important for good metabolic health) - Supports regularity & digestion - Supports elimination of excess hormones & waste + much, much more!!! Here’s how to make them: - Cut apples into small cubes (*Honeycrisp works so well) - Add to a pot + cover almost completely with filtered water - Bring to a boil, then add lots of cinnamon + a pinch of salt - Lower the heat & cook for ~7–8 minutes, stirring occasionally - Add a tiny drizzle of maple syrup if you want - Drain & finish with more cinnamon + your fav toppings I had mine over this protein buckwheat for even more fiber, minerals, & blood sugar support🤌🏼 For the buckwheat: cook @bobsredmill buckwheat cereal according to the package instructions. I use slightly less water because I like it thicker/cakier. Once cooked, add protein powder ( I used @sarahwraggewellness Optimize). I lightly scrape/fold it into the buckwheat instead of fully stirring so it stays fluffy instead of turning mushy. Easy, cozy & such a staple fall gut support breakfast/snack 🫶🫶🫶 #stewedapples #guthealthy #guthealing
Broth bowls are my fav trend!!!! so obviously I had to make a deconstructed miso soup version 🫶🍲 packed with protein, fermented miso, mushrooms, & bone broth for a cozy meal that supports both gut + immune health. For the crispy tofu: - Extra firm tofu, cubed (press out all the water) - Avocado oil (to lightly coat) - Generous garlic powder - 3 tbsp coconut aminos - 1 tbsp arrowroot powder (cornstarch works too) For the miso broth: - 1 cup bone broth - 2 tbsp miso paste - 1/4 cup room temp water - Dash of coconut aminos For the bowl: - Jasmine rice - Shelled edamame - Mushrooms (I used baby bella) - Coconut oil (to coat pan) - Garlic powder - Green onion - Chili oil - Seaweed (if you have it, I did not) How to: - Start cooking rice according to package instructions. - Press as much water as possible out of your tofu, cube it, then toss with avo oil, garlic powder, coconut aminos, & arrowroot/cornstarch. Bake at 400F for ~25 min until crispyyyy. Air frying works too (I’d just do less time/start checking around 15–20 min) - Chop mushrooms & saute in a little coconut oil + garlic powder for ~5 min. Cover for another ~2 min until tender. - Steam edamame (I microwave for time) - For the broth, whisk the miso paste with 1/4 cup water until smooth. Warm your bone broth & stir in the miso mixture + add a dash of coconut aminos. - To assemble: add rice, crispy tofu, edamame, & mushrooms to a bowl. Pour miso broth all over everything, then top with green onion, chili oil, & seaweed. Done!!! Basically if miso soup decided to become a full meal 🍚🍄💞 #brothbowl #misosoup #guthealthy #immunehealth
The Health Nuts on UES is an OG!!! @TheHealthNutsNYC #nycwellness #healthfoodstore #thehealthnuts
No belly button castor oil over here! Liver is where it's at!! Castor oil is super rich in ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that can penetrate the skin & is part of why packs are used to support local circulation, lymphatic movement, digestion, & inflammation. Placing it over the liver area + adding heat is my FAV way to use it when I feel bloated, sluggish, constipated, or extra pmsy!! Avoid it during your menstrual phase, but the week leading up (luteal phase), it can be so so helpful. I only use it for 30-60mins & that's enough for me (it's possible to overdo it..) Love Queen of Thrones castor oil (code EATSWITHALE10) bc it comes in a glass bottle, is cold pressed, & hexane-free! #castoroilpack #detox #bloatingrelief
DeletedTHIS is the time to start thinking about vitamin D 💛🌞!!! Vitamin D receptors are found throughout your whole body, including your brain & immune cells. It supports serotonin-related pathways/ mood, immune defense, bone health, muscle function, inflammatory regulation, metabolic health, reproductive health & soo much more. It also helps activate antimicrobial peptides like cathelicidin + defensins (aka part of your innate immune system’s first line of defense). Since Vit D is fat soluble, your body can store it. Highly rec taking advantage of stronger UV now, because your skin’s ability to make vitamin D drops through fall & winter! What I’m personally doing: - I got a 25-hydroxy vitamin D blood test so I know where I’m starting (my doc personally likes me above 50 ideally 60-80 ng/mL) - Daily walks + time outside (1 hour minimum) - Eating more vitamin D-rich foods (salmon, sardines, egg yolks, mushrooms, liver) - Supplementing ahead with a good liposomal vitamin D - Making sure magnesium is in a good place since it’s involved in vitamin D activation (underrated!!!) #vitamind #magnesium #sunexposure #immunesupport #moodsupport
THE perfect healthy pumpkin bread recipe. Gluten free, refined sugar free, perfectly cozy, & officially on repeat for the foreseeable future. Wet ingredients: -2 eggs -1 cup pumpkin purée -1/4 cup almond butter (or any nut butter works! tahini is also so good!) -1/3 cup maple syrup -1/3 cup Greek yogurt -2 tsp vanilla extract Dry ingredients: -1 cup oat flour (I used @bobsredmill GF) -1/2 cup almond flour -Pumpkin pie spice (or a mix of cinnamon + nutmeg) -1 tsp baking powder -3/4 tsp baking soda -Choc chips (I used @Lakanto monk fruit sweetened) Directions: -Preheat oven to 350F. In one bowl, whisk together all of the wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, mix together dry ingredients. -Add dry ingredients to the wet & stir until combined. Fold in choc chips or any other mix-ins you want!! -Pour into a parchment lined loaf pan & add a few extra choc chips on top. Bake for 45–50 mins (or until golden on top) Let cool a little before slicing & enjoy!!! 🍁🩷💛 INSANE. #glutenfreedessert #pumpkinbread #healthydesserts #refinedsugarfree
If you've been sardine-curious but never knew how to actually eat them... let this be your gateway🐟🩷 This is my go-to when I want something quick, high protein, nutrient-dense, but don't wanna cook cook. - Can of sardines (I used @Fishwife hot pepper sardines, but anything seasoned in EVOO works) - Crunchy veggies (think chopped cucumber, carrot, onion, bell pepper, whatever you have on deck) - A generous dollop of hummus - Whatever spices you'd like (I like adding garlic powder + pepper) Dip with chips/crackers ofc!!!! Why I consider them a total beauty food: - They're packed with omega 3s (EPA + DHA) which are anti-inflammatory, help calm + PLUMP skin, heal breakouts, & nourish hair follicles - They're full of amino acids like glycine & proline that support collagen production - Packed with minerals like selenium, zinc, calcium + vitamin D- key nutrients our metabolism, immune system, skin, scalp/ hair all rely on - One of the few whole foods with natural creatine in it + sososo much more. Anyways, this will be the easiest & most nourishing thing you eat all week. Lmk if you try it🫶
Btw the mouth is the second largest microbiome in our body!!! It's a control center / direct entry point for inflammation that affects our gut, brain, heart, immune system. & symptoms often show up here first. Fun fact: I had a six hour gum grafting surgery in high school, right around the same time my gut health started falling apart. From everything I know now, I def don’t think that was a coincidence. & as someone with UC who’s experienced the gut-oral connection firsthand (mouth ulcers are actually a symptom of UC), I’ve always been extra curious to see what my oral microbiome looks like now! @SmileHouse is holistic dental longevity & I think it’s the future of oral care 💗🦷🧘‍♀️🪥#holisticdentistry #oralcareroutine #nycwellness

80% of what I eat at home is some variation of capsule kitchen prep: a nourishing carb + protein + veggie (aka “high-quality basics”) with whatever toppings, sauces & extras I’m feeling (aka the “accessories”). Every prep looks a little different, but this one had: - Oven roasted mixed potatoes + parsnips (seasoned with garlic & paprika) - Miso salmon (recipe on my page, always insane) - Cucumber salad (tossed in EVOO, coconut aminos, rice wine vinegar, sesame seeds) - Ground beef cooked in @Siete Foods taco seasoning I'll be mixing & matching these basics with whatever else is living in my fridge + pantry over the next couple days😌 makes life so easy 💛💛 Highly recommend.
Rose + damiana + green tea combo trust ✨🤴
✨Capsule Fridge✨ aka the meal system I've been using for ages that helped me start cooking healthy meals at home. You don't need to be a chef, you don't need to follow elaborate recipes, & you don't need to spend a fortune. Just like a capsule wardrobe, you need a few high quality basics + whatever accessories enhance your palate & flavor preferences!!!! This weeks capsule fridge ✨BASICS✨: - two proteins: grilled chicken & ground beef - two veggies: cucumber salad & steamed broccoli - two carbs: white rice & mixed roasted potatoes So many combos from this alone! But the best part is ✨ACCESSORIES✨: - Kimche - Hummus - Microgreens - Olives - Sauces (mustard, coconut aminos, mayo, hot sauce, bbq, EVOO, etc.) Have fun with it 💛#healthyeating #mealprep
The luteal phase salad aka Warm Chickpea Tahini Caesar 🥣🍠🥦🧀 Warm, high protein, no lettuce, & packed with the best hormone-loving ingredients. Grounding carbs from the sweet potato to keep blood sugar + cortisol steady, broccoli for liver support & clearing excess estrogen, tons of protein to keep you full & out of fight-or-flight, & a drinkable dressing full of anti-inflammatory fats to nourish hormones + support skin health. The warm part isn't random btw- my chinese medicine doc (2023 saga) had me cut cold food while I was healing from a lot of gut & hormonal issues, & it's still the advice I come back to, esp when I'm dealing with symptoms of any sort. Warm food is just less work for your body to digest!! You'll need:
-1 sweet potato
-broccoli
-chicken
-chickpeas (rinsed and drained)
-1/4 cup EVOO
-1/4 cup tahini
-juice of one lemon
-minced garlic (or powder)
-salt
-pepper
-paprika
-avocado oil or another high heat oil
-optional: parm or manchego (nutritional yeast works too) To make:
Season your broccoli, sweet potato (cubed small), & chickpeas in avocado oil, paprika, salt, pepper. Roast @450 for 25 min. While it's baking, cook your chicken (I bake mine, sometimes I'll grill). I season so simply- avocado oil, garlic, salt, pepper. For the dressing: EVOO, tahini, lemon juice, as much cheese as your heart desires, 1 tbsp minced garlic, salt, pepper. Mix & add water to thin. Assemble, top w more cheese duh, & enjoyyy!!! Luteal phase or not- this one helps me feel regulated. Hope u feel it too 🤍 #lutealphase #hormonehealth #warmsalad
Truly life changing
Such an underrated way to take care of your gut: wash your fruits + veggies 🧼🍇🥦 Produce is usually grown, sprayed, transported, touched, stored, & handled before it gets to your plate, & while we can’t control everything, this is one of those tiny, cheap habits that can actually reduce the amount of bacteria, mold spores, pesticide residue, dirt, & grime your gut has to deal with!!! My two go-to methods: - Vinegar wash for bacteria & mold - Baking soda wash for extra pesticide residue #guthealthtip #guthealth
My weekly ingredient prep system: - Carb first: Usually potatoes, rice, or both because they take the longest. This is when I start my mental timer & get everything else going. Potatoes: garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, baked at 400° for ~45 min. - Protein: my usuals include ground meat, baked chicken thighs, or wild salmon. I'll usually reuse the same seasoning bowl as the potatoes because fewer dishes :) - Always a veggie situation: Sometimes just washed raw veggies, sometimes a quick salad. This week was carrot + cucumber with EVOO, rice wine vinegar, coconut aminos + simple steamed cauliflower. - Beans: Rinsed + drained mixed canned beans to add big spoonfuls to meals for extra fiber, minerals, & detox support. Nature's "clear skin supplement"!!! - Breakfast: A no-cook high-protein option like chia pudding, overnight oats, or overnight buckwheat (what I made this week). I usually make 2–3 servings. - Usually I'll also make a sweet treat: Because the sweet tooth is inevitable & I’d rather have something better-for-you ready!! I repeat some version of this about 2x/week so I always have fresh ingredients + easy meal building blocks around. Truly life-changing, saves me from grazing food that makes me feel like trash, & makes nourishing meals feel accessible 👩‍🍳🍠🍗💗 #ingredientprep #easycooking #mealprep
Grounding = letting your bare skin touch the Earth’s natural surfaces like grass, sand, soil, or ocean water. It’s been studied for supporting healthy inflammation, HRV, sleep, stress, chronic pain, cortisol rhythms, mood, & even wound healing. The idea is that the Earth’s surface has a natural negative charge/free electrons, and when your body makes direct contact with it, those electrons may help neutralize excess free radicals/oxidative stress in the body. Fav studies to start: PMID: 25848315 PMID: 36528336 Anyway it's free & go take your shoes off 🦶🌎💗#grounding #antiinflammatory #earthing
