- 🎹 On the 88th day of the year, we’re celebrating an instrument which typically has 88 keys - the piano! Visit us in Żelazowa Wola and take part in all the celebrations we have planned for this Sunday! A detailed programme is available on our website 👉 http://muzeum.nifc.pl
- ❗️ World Piano Day sale | “Chopin’s Piano” The album Chopin's Piano with photos by Wojciech Grzędziński shows the process of building a copy of an instrument from the Fryderyk Buchholtz workshop - from the time of selecting appropriate wood to the moment of mounting the tablet reading ‘Fryderyk Buchholtz in Warsaw' on the finished piano. The whole is filled out with an expansive historical sketch authored by Prof. Beniamin Vogel, a distinguished expert on period pianos. “We know relatively quite a lot, yet at the same time very little, about the piano that Fryderyk Chopin had at home – the least about the instrument he used before 1828. Why is this important to us? Well, if we wish to recreate, be it only in approximation, the original sound of Chopin’s music from those times, we must return to that instrument and the state of its development, in terms of both technology and sound. And it differed considerably from the grand pianos played on concert platforms in our time. Whilst we attach great weight to the piano on which a virtuoso displays his or her skills today, we sometimes fail to realise the great importance which the flaws and advantages of the instrument had for Chopin and his peers. The pianos available to them, although perfect in the musical world at the time, were still far from modern-day instruments in terms of design, sound and technical capacities.” - Beniamin Vogel You can now get the album for less than half of its regular price in our online store 👉 http://sklep.nifc.pl

W kolejną środę, 1 kwietnia o godz. 18:00, w Pałacu Staszica w Warszawie odbędzie się wykład „Druga Wielka Emigracja: od Jerzego Giedroycia i Witolda Gombrowicza po Mieczysława Grydzewskiego i Mariana Hemara”. - 🎶 400 hours of music – summary of the Chopin Effect project “Chopin Effect” is one of the most important and far-reaching projects that emerged in the aftermath of the 19th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. The project aims to build and strengthen musical culture in Poland, primarily in communities and places at risk of cultural exclusion, where access to live music is limited – whether for geographic or social reasons, or due to the special needs of audiences. Funded with the support of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritageand organized by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, the “Chopin Effect” programme comprised 386 events: 144 recitals performed by young pianists (including participants in last year’s 19th Chopin Competition), 9 symphonic concerts, and as many as 233 educational events. The events took place from October to December 2025. The Chopin Effect amounts to over 400 hours of concertsand approximately 58,000 listeners of all ages. A video report from the project is now available on our YouTube channel 👉 @chopininstitute 👤 Featured in the video: Marta Cienkowska, Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Bogusława Marszalik, Head of Chopin Institute’s Education Department, project coordinator
- 🗣️ During the 19th Chopin Competition, our YouTube audience could spend intermissions between sessions watching the Chopin Talk Studio - a talk-show-like segment, during which participants, jury members, and other experts talked about all things Chopin! 🎥 All episodes of the Chopin Talk Studio are currently available on our YouTube channel. If you’d like to listen to more conversations like this one, during which Yulianna Avdeeva, the winner of the Chopin Competition in 2010, and Dr. Artur Szklener, the Director of the Chopin Institute, talked about the Polonaise-Fantaisie, make sure to check them out! #chopin2025
- 🌙 Zbychorski – Koshio / Cooperations 🎶 Upcoming temporary exhibition in Żelazowa Wola We invite you to experience the results of an artistic process: the exceptional collaboration of Olgierd Zbychorski, a visual artist, with contemporary musicians, and with the master calligrapher Masafumi Koshio. The exhibition leads visitors through successive manifestations of their mutual interaction as creators representing different artistic disciplines, offering one another inspiration and space to act within their respective chosen media. The temporary exhibition space in Żelazowa Wola lends itself to a play of contrasts. The monochromatic graphic works entitled “Nocturnes” anticipate the diverse, fleeting impressions of instant photography and of Japanese calligraphic signs, which, in their capture of a fleeting moment, evoke associations with the musical genre of the impromptu. Zbychorski’s Nocturnes comprise a group of silkscreen compositions inspired by Chopin’s music encountered in everyday life. The key to the process lay in an extensive transformation of the musical notation of Nocturne in E-flat major, Op. 9 No. 2, and the visual results of the works selected from Zbychorski’s twelve compositions became a score for the musicians invited to collaborate. Improvisations to successive graphic works were created by Paweł Gajec, Jerzy Mazzoll, Paweł Dobrowolski, Tomasz Januchta, RakRaczej, Narducci, Project Kodama, Maja Miro and Tomasz Gadecki, Thysenterprise, Michał Zygmunt, and Michał Jan Ciesielski. - 📚 “Veni Sancte Spiritus” by Hieronim of Koprzywnica on the “Polish Music Heritage in Open Access” portal The only known work by the Cistercian Hieronim of Koprzywnica, ‘Veni Sancte Spiritus,’ is in the form of a motet. It is included in one of the most important monuments of Polish music: the Pelplin tablature: six volumes containing 857 instrumental, vocal, and vocal-instrumental pieces written in the New German organ tablature; all were recorded in tablature in the first half of the 17th century. This famous relic will now be digitized by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute and made available on the website of our project “Polish musical culture in a European perspective – sources and contexts” 👉 http://polish.musicsources.pl/ Read more on our website 👉 http://nauka.nifc.pl 👤 Featured in the video: Rev. - 📚 The Diocesan Library in Pelplin among the institutions included in the Fryderyk Chopin Institute’s digitization project Among the most important institutions in Pelplin is the Bishop Jan Bernard Szlaga Diocesan Library. Established in 1829 as the Seminary Library, its initial holdings included the collections of monasteries in the Chełmno diocese. Over the following decades, it expanded to include volumes from the collections of the Bernardines from Lubawa and Zamarty, the Cistercians from Oliwa, the Reformed Friars from Wejherowo, Kiszpork, Toruń-Pogórze, Brodnica, and Dzierzgoń, the missionaries from Chełmno, the Benedictine nuns from Grudziądz, Żarnowiec, and Toruń, the Jesuits from Grudziądz and Stare Szkoty, the Dominicans from Toruń, the Missionaries of St. Adalbert, the Carmelites and Bridgettines from Gdańsk, the Carthusians from Kartuzy, as well as the church library in Radzyn and the library from the bishop’s castle in Starogród. By the mid-19th century, the Pelplin library already held 10,000 volumes, and before World War II, 50,000; about half of them were lost or destroyed during the war. One of the most exceptional items in this collection is the Pelplin tablature: six volumes containing 857 instrumental, vocal, and vocal-instrumental pieces written in the New German organ tablature; all were recorded in tablature in the first half of the 17th century. Here’s a short video report from that event.
