In a kaleidoscope of life and art" took place at the Fryderyk Chopin Birthplace and Park in Żelazowa Wola. The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most remarkable figures of 19th-century culture – the writer, artist, and long-time companion of Fryderyk Chopin. - 🖼️ A new series of museum displays in Żelazowa Wola complements the permanent exhibition and the programmes accompanying temporary exhibitions. As part of this initiative, selected objects from the museum’s collection—linked thematically to the narrative of the site—will be periodically made available to the public. The displays are held in the Music Room, in direct dialogue with the exhibition, offering an in-depth commentary on the history of the site. The first instalment of the series is devoted to the earliest known photographs of Żelazowa Wola, dating back to the 1860s. These objects, presented to the public for the first time, depict the manor house and its surroundings during the period when the estate was owned by Adam Towiański. Although they were created after Chopin’s death, they document a space that retained the character familiar to the composer. The photographs also capture elements of the landscape and layout of the former estate: the hornbeam avenue leading towards the Utrata River, farm buildings, and views of the village with its distinctive windmill. Together, they reflect the description of Żelazowa Wola found in Fryderyk Skarbek’s Memoirs, in which he emphasised the picturesque setting of this small village. The objects on display constitute a unique iconographic record, enabling the reconstruction of the appearance of a place where the lives of two closely connected families—the Chopins and the Skarbeks—intertwined. 👤 Featured in the video: Mariola Wojtkiewicz ___ ❗️ Last chance to see it! 21 March – 8 July 2026 Curator (The Fryderyk Chopin Museum): Dr Seweryn Kuter Display Curator: Mariola Wojtkiewicz Conservation: Diana Długosz-Jasińska, Dr Marta Zaborowska

- 🎂 George Sand’s 222nd birthday ✒️ “I came into the world on July 5, 1804, my father was playing the violin and my mother wore a pretty pink dress. It took but a minute. I at least had that portion of happiness that my Aunt Lucie predicted of not making my mother labor too long.” – Aurora Dudevant, née Dupin, known to the world by her literary pseudonym George Sand, describes the moment of her birth in “Story of My Life” – “Histoire de ma vie”– her multi-volume autobiography (the first French book edition from 1854–1855 contained twenty volumes). She was born in Paris, less than a month after her parents’ wedding – an obvious misalliance: her mother, Antoinette-Sophie-Victoire Delaborde, was a fowler’s daughter and a vivandière; her father, Maurice Dupin, came from an upper-class, semi-aristocratic family – on his mother’s side, he was a descendant of Marshal Maurice de Saxe of France, a count, and briefly even duke of Courland and Semigallia. George was always proud of her dual heritage and of being a legitimate child. Raised by her grandmother (Maurice died after a fall from a horse just four years later, and her mother agreed to leave her daughter to her mother-in-law), Aurora grew up on the family estate in Nohant. George was the most important woman in Fryderyk Chopin’s life. Their affair began in 1838 and lasted for nine years. As the composer’s illness progressed, Sand became his devoted caregiver, providing him with exceptional creative opportunities, particularly thanks to their stays together at her family estate in Nohant. It was during the summer months, at this home near Paris, that Fryderyk wrote his greatest masterpieces. 📚 Sand over the course of several decades penned dozens of novels – extremely popular in the 19th century – as well as stage plays and journalistic pieces. George became a symbol of women’s creative freedom and the rejection of convention, and today her work is once again the subject of increasing interest. We will be writing more about this exceptional artist on our blog this Friday, and on July 11, we invite you to the temporary exhibition ‘In a kaleidoscope of life and art. George Sand (1804–1876)" in Żelazowa Wola.

- 🎞️ Less than a month ago, on 26 May, the Scientific Information Department of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute organized the conference “Archive of Tomorrow: Safeguarding against Annihilation” at Chopin’s Birthplace in Żelazowa Wola. For several years, we have been working intensively on digitizing and preserving Fryderyk Chopin’s musical manuscripts and correspondence (and, more recently, the most important collections of Polish music stored in archives and libraries across the country). We want this unique heritage, of inestimable value, to be accessible to future generations for thousands of years to come. We focused on ways to ensure that this one-of-a-kind legacy survives safely for centuries, protected from any imaginable threat – whether it be war damage or natural disasters. We chose technology from the Norwegian company Piql, which has developed a method for preserving digitized collections on film. The culmination of the process of securing the valuable manuscripts is the placement of the tapes on which they are recorded in the World Arctic Archive in Svalbard – the Fryderyk Chopin Institute has already made two deposits there. A short documentary about the Archive and the conference is available on our YouTube channel 👉 @chopininstitute ___ Production: camera - Filip Drożdż archival footage - NIFC, PIQL, ArchiPeak, Kościół Pokoju Świdnica sound - Mateusz Irisik editing and colouring - Tomasz Chłopek titles - Filip Dowjat executive producer - Urszula Bielicka press photos – Jakub Mozolweski 👤 Featured in the above video: Justyna Marciniak (PWM), Jędrzej Sabliński (PIQL Polska / Archipeak), Bendik Bryde (PIQL Norway), Joanna Żebrowska-Cielek (Centrum Projektów Polska Cyfrowa), Kamil Pielaciński (NIFC)

- 🎓 W środę 3 czerwca zakończyliśmy pierwszy semestr Uniwersytetu Otwartego NIFC. Ostatni wykład w wiosenno-letnim sezonie poświęcony był najsłynniejszym polskim emigrantkom, a wygłosiła go dr hab. Jolanta Guzy-Pasiak, prof. IS PAN (Instytut Sztuki Polskiej Akademii Nauk). 🎹 Po wykładzie miał miejsce recital fortepianowy w wykonaniu Aleksandry Janusz – utalentowanej pianistki młodego pokolenia, laureatki polskich i zagranicznych konkursów. Artystka wykonała program złożony z utworów Fryderyka Chopina, kończąc go dramatycznym w wyrazie Polonezem fis-moll op. 44.
