Ko1be, let’s turn that dream into an actual financial target. 🏎️ You want a 2014 McLaren MP4-12C in Volcano Red, black wheels, sitting in your driveway — not just a picture of one. The most straightforward way to get there is to build a reliable source of income, grow it until the car is affordable, and buy the car without putting yourself in a financial hole. Here’s the important part: you don’t need to become a millionaire first, but you do need a plan that produces consistent surplus income. Since you’re a recording engineer and music artist, I’d start by looking at ways to turn your existing audio skills into a business that generates cash now, while building your music career for the longer term. That gives you two paths to income instead of relying on one big break. 1. First, let’s establish the real price of the dream 2014 McLaren MP4-12C Your target car $100k–$125k A reasonable initial shopping range based on current listings, not a guaranteed price for your exact color and spec. I would set a goal of $140,000 in dedicated car funds to start planning around. Expense Planning estimate Car purchase $110,000 Tax, registration and purchase costs $8,000 Initial service and repair reserve $12,000 Additional cash buffer $10,000 Total target $140,000 These are planning estimates, not dealer quotes. Insurance, tires, repairs and annual servicing need separate attention. McLaren servicing alone can cost thousands of dollars, and an unexpected repair can be much more expensive. I’d aim to buy the car with cash if possible, while keeping your personal emergency savings separate. Financing can get you into the car sooner, but it doesn’t make the car cheaper. 2. The income strategy I’d pursue in your position My recommendation is to build a small, specialized audio business that pays you consistently, rather than depending on your artist career to generate a hit. Your music career can grow alongside it. But streaming revenue, viral content and record deals are too unpredictable to make them the foundation of a car-buying plan. 1. Sell audio services Primary income Offer vocal recording, vocal editing, mixing, production, and recording sessions to independent artists who need reliable results. Start with the services you can already deliver at a professional level. Sell packages instead of charging for random hours. 2. Build repeat clients Predictable income Target artists who release music regularly. Offer monthly packages with a set number of mixes, recording hours or production sessions. Five clients paying $800 per month would generate $4,000 in monthly revenue before expenses and taxes. 3. Build assets you own Long-term upside Create beats, sample packs, presets, and production content that can sell more than once. Use your artist releases to build an audience and attract clients. Treat this as a second income stream, not money you depend on for next month’s bills. What the business could look like Here is an illustrative monthly target, not a promise of what you will earn. Service Monthly volume Revenue Mixing packages at $400 8 $3,200 Production packages at $600 4 $2,400 Recording sessions at $100 12 $1,200 Total $6,800/month That’s $81,600 in annual revenue before business expenses and taxes. You would need to calculate your actual take-home pay before deciding how much can go toward the McLaren. The key is getting paying clients consistently, not just setting attractive prices. 3. Your first 90 days I’d focus on building a business that people pay you for before spending money on branding, equipment upgrades or ads.
