She named her horses after lipstick shades… and quietly kept planting when the gardener wasn’t looking 🌸 From shipping heiress to certified horse girl and the ultimate garden visionary, Lurline Matson Roth lived a life as layered as the estate she helped shape. Lurline Matson Roth shaped Filoli’s future with a sense of beauty, curiosity, and a little rule-breaking along the way. She hosted grand parties, planted without permission, and ultimately donated Filoli to the National Trust for Historic Preservation so it could be enjoyed for generations to come. From her love of camellias to the life she built here, her influence still lingers in every corner of the estate. Happy #WomensHistoryMonth! #localhistory #historicestate #womenshistory #sanfranciscohistory
