Zakia B.Make Ahead Gravy π₯£π¦ Ingredients * 1/2 cup unsalted butter * 1/2 cup all-purpose flour * 4β6 cups chicken broth * Salt and pepper, to taste * Garlic powder and onion powder, optional, to taste Instructions 1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat. 2. Once melted, add the flour and whisk until fully combined with the butter. 3. Cook for 5β7 minutes over medium-low heat to cook out the raw flour taste, whisking occasionally. 4. After 5β7 minutes, slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps and clumps from forming. 5. Once everything is well combined, add your seasonings to taste. Go light on the salt at first, and add more later if needed. 6. Let the gravy simmer over medium-low heat for about 20β30 minutes, or until it has thickened to your desired consistency. If you prefer thicker gravy, cook with the lid off to allow more liquid to evaporate. If you prefer thinner gravy, keep the lid on to retain more moisture. 7. If your gravy becomes too thick, add a little more broth or water to thin it out. 8. Stir occasionally to prevent the gravy from sticking to the bottom of the pan or burning. 9. Once finished, pour the gravy into a freezer-safe or refrigerator-safe container. 10. Allow the gravy to cool slightly before placing it in the refrigerator or freezer. Storage Tips * Refrigerator: Make your gravy 3β4 days before Thanksgiving and store it in the refrigerator. Reheat on the stovetop when youβre ready to serve. * Freezer: Gravy can be frozen for up to 3β4 months. Thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and reheat on the stovetop on Thanksgiving. Add a little extra broth if needed to reach your desired consistency. #gravy #homemadegravy #thanksgivingrecipes #zeetheintrovert
