- What does our planet look like from 400 kilometers up? And what does the night sky look like from the ground below? Nat Geo Explorer and photographer @babaktafreshi and NASA astronaut Don Pettit (@astro_pettit01) coordinate to photograph the same location from radically different perspectives—one from the ground and the other from the International Space Station. Discover their work for yourself in the October issue of National Geographic and at the link in bio.
- Floreana giant tortoises disappeared almost 200 years ago after becoming a source of food for sailors. On a mission to photograph giant tortoises, photographer Lucas Bustamante ventured to Isabela Island—one of the most remote corners of the Galápagos—where he found some extremely curious tortoises with DNA tied to the extinct species.
- Sometimes the best families are the ones you make for yourself—this elephant has formed a herd of her own with a group of buffalo who have learned to understand her. 🐘 #SecretsOfTheElephants is now streaming on @disneyplus and @hulu.
- What can a whale teach us about renewable energy? A lot. Scientists have found that tubercles—the bumps on a whale's fin—help them swim more easily underwater and thus increase energy efficiency. Using biomimicry, humans applied the same principle to turbine blades and found that it also improved energy efficiency. Watch as host @addi.mov explores the science behind this whale-inspired innovation.
- Sperm whales rarely venture into the ice-choked waters of the Arctic, where polar bears make their home. When photographer @roiegalitz captured photos and video of polar bears feasting on the massive carcass of a dead sperm whale, he knew he was documenting activity that humans don't typically get to witness. Read more about how he got these stunning shots at the 🔗 in bio.
- Everything else can wait; you only have 30 seconds to hang out with these adorable burrowing owl chicks. #AmericasNationalParks is now streaming on @disneyplus and @hulu.
- As the sun sets over Etosha, Namibia, animals retreat to the water holes and freshen up after a long, hot day. Giraffes are a fundamental part of this reserve's ecosystem, and on this particular day, photographer Martin Gregus Jr. @mywildlive captured a male giraffe's attempt at courting a female.

- Last summer, a group of sport fishermen was casting lines off the coast of Costa Rica's Tortuguero National Park when one of their hooks caught a creature no one had ever seen before: a six-foot nurse shark with white eyes and golden skin. The astonished fishermen released the shark, but not before snapping a few photos to share with local scientists. But, upon further investigation, Nat Geo Explorer and executive director of Costa Rica’s Rescue Center for Endangered Marine Species, Daniel Arauz Naranjo and his colleagues determined that the photos were not only genuine, but that the shark’s coloration was the product of a rare skin condition known as albino-xanthochromism. - 9The twilight zone is a vast, dusky layer of the ocean teeming with life. Just 660 to 3,300 feet (201 to 1,006 meters) below the surface, inhabitants like strawberry squid, transparent crustaceans, and trillions of migrating creatures have evolved extraordinary adaptations to navigate the darkness and avoid predators. They play a large role in moving carbon through the deep ocean and sustaining marine food webs. Now, with growing industrial pressures and climate shifts, researchers are racing to understand this hidden world before it changes irreversibly. Learn more about this crucial ocean zone at the 🔗 in bio.
- Ever wondered where you'd end up if you started digging a hole through the Earth? It's probably in the ocean, but it's still fun to know! Join National Geographic's senior cartography editor, Scott Zillmer, as he explains how to calculate your antipodal point.
- Take a moment to witness this incredible view in the Cerrado, Brazil. This ecoregion is one of the most biodiverse savannahs on Earth and is home to three of the largest aquifers in South America—underground reservoirs that serve as the starting point for some of the continent’s most important rivers. The Catarata dos Couros waterfalls, near Alto Paraíso de Goiás, are only one part of the crucial Cerrado ecosystem that's also known as the “cradle of waters.” Video by @katieorlinsky
- Studies show that dementia cases in the U.S. could double by 2060. That might sound grim, but it's partly because more people are living into their 70s, 80s, and 90s, when dementia is more likely to appear. Physician Keren Landman explores how dementia rates are increasing while dementia prevention is getting better—but the benefits from this knowledge aren't being shared equally. - Paid content for @pepsico. For family farmers like Wendy Johnson, it isn’t just about growing food. By planting cover crops and leaning on biodiversity, farmers not only help prevent soil erosion but also promote species diversification and help create a thriving future for the next generation.
- A newly discovered fossil, named Kostensuchus atrox, had knife-like teeth and a bite that paleontologist and Nat Geo Explorer Diego Pol says could break you in two with just one chomp. It's smaller than the largest crocodiles and alligators found today, but its size does not rule out the possibility that it hunted dinosaurs during its time. Learn more about this discovery at the 🔗 in bio.
- Dinner is served! This beaver kit is enjoying an evening meal of bark and cambium from a willow stick. And while this little one nibbles, its species shapes landscapes, proving that even the smallest engineers can be climate heroes. Wildfire mitigation and recovery are excellent examples of this, as the areas occupied by beavers show more resilience to the dangers. Learn more about how these semiaquatic rodents can help protect against the effects of climate change at the 🔗 in bio.
- Paid content for Blua, digital health by @bupa. After over 60,000 haircuts, Stewart and his team at Haircuts 4 Homeless have discovered endless benefits for themselves as well as their clients. They’ve formed connections, improved their own mental health, and discovered the power of a simple gesture of kindness. Learn more about living without limits at the link in bio.

- What if the data we create daily could fit inside DNA? Scientists are turning DNA into a digital archive, using its four chemical bases to store everything from pixels to letters. It's slow and costly, but it could preserve our digital history in a way traditional data centers can't. Learn more at the 🔗 in bio. Host: @itshalleybee
