Gaby NikoI love sketching hair โ itโs the most relaxing part of the process. ๐๐ผโโ๏ธโจ Even in my highly detailed portraits, I tend to keep the hair more abstract and symbolic, allowing the focus to stay on the characterโs expression so the process is often smooth and very satisfying โ๏ธ ๐ Here are some tips for drawing hair in a simplified style: 1. Focus on the overall shape โ Instead of drawing every single strand, try to capture the hairstyle as one solid form. Squinting your eyes can help you ignore details and see the bigger picture. 2. Donโt overdo the details โ We know hair consists of thousands of strands, but drawing each one would be unnatural and distracting. A few well-placed lines are enough to suggest texture and direction. 3. Match the line to the hair type โ Linework is key in simplified drawings. Use soft, wavy lines for curly hair and smooth, confident strokes for straight hair to convey its natural movement. 4. Take inspiration from animation and comics โ Observe how artists simplify hairstyles and try incorporating similar techniques into your portrait sketches. 5. Experiment and simplify โ The more you draw, the more intuitive it becomes. If youโve ever sketched Disney characters or other cartoons, you might already have a natural sense of how to stylize hair without excessive detail. #sketchbook #pencilsketching #portraitdrawings #drawingtips #howtodrawhair #portraitart
