Devon RodriguezThis is my friend John Ahearn, the legendary sculptor I’ve mentioned before. This video shows his process of life casting a portrait. I’ve known this process since I first met him in 2014. From 2015 to 2018, John made several sculptures of me, and now in 2025, we came together again to create a new one that represents this chapter of my life. John has done so much for me, he helped me get into The New Yorker, and a painting I made of John was a finalist in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s Outwin Boochever Portrait competition in 2019. I’m endlessly grateful for his mentorship, belief, and friendship. Stay tuned for the next video, where he reveals the finished sculpture to me and you’ll see my reaction. Eternally grateful to John Ahearn. #JohnAhearn #SouthBronx
