Chopin Institute📚 The Elbląg Library, named after Cyprian Norwid since 1970, is one of the oldest such institutions in Poland. The collection’s origins date back to the 16th century. It was then that Jan Mylius, a teacher and rector of the Elbląg Gymnasium, founded the library at the school he headed. The first volumes were added in 1599, and the initiator ensured its expansion, either through purchases or through donations from deceased Gymnasium professors, mayors, pastors, and other city notables. Many valuable objects from the Elbląg Library collection, thanks to a grant from the European Funds for Digital Development programme won by the Fryderyk Chopin Institute ‘Polish musical culture in a European perspective – sources and contexts’, have been digitized and will soon be available for viewing on the website https://polish.musicsources.pl/.
