Chaka KhanThere's never a bad day to turn up “Ain’t Nobody.” Written by Rufus keyboardist David “Hawk” Wolinski, the song first appeared in 1983 on STOMPIN’ AT THE SAVOY – LIVE. The double album was mostly live material, but its fourth side featured four new studio recordings, including the song that would become one of the defining records of Chaka and Rufus’ career. “Ain’t Nobody” went all the way to No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B chart and reached No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100, spending 19 weeks on the chart. Overseas, it became an even bigger pop hit in the UK, climbing to No. 8, while also reaching No. 29 on the Dutch Top 40 and No. 36 on the Netherlands Single Top 100. In 1984, Rufus and Chaka won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for “Ain’t Nobody.” And that unforgettable opening? Wolinski developed the song around a repeating electronic figure while experimenting with an early Linn drum machine, helping give the record the sleek, futuristic pulse that still sounds unmistakable more than four decades later. #ChakaKhan #Rufus #AintNobody
