Ami VitaleMy heart is full of gratitude after this recent DREAM assignment through the Yukon and the Northwest Territories in Canada. This was a first of its kind photography project: National Geographic and Explore Canada asked three National Geographic photographers to document our own stories in different regions of Canada. This land is governed by both the biggest and smallest – the grizzly and the mosquito – and by the extremes of subarctic seasons. The people I met, the landscapes I visited, and the lessons learned will stay with me forever. The sheer magnificence of this place, with its granite peaks piercing the alpine sky brought me to tears. It reminded me of the crucial connection we all need with wildness for our own well-being. In these raw, untouched spaces, we discover a deeper sense of ourselves and a renewed appreciation for the natural world. I returned not only in awe of its magnificence but also acutely aware of its fragility and how we inhabit these spaces.
