Ami VitaleOn World Bee Day, let's celebrate the incredible transformation sparked by the city of Genk, Belgium. Once a coal mining hub shrouded in pollution and hardship, Genk decided to rewrite its story. In the 1980s, as the curtain fell on the coal era, Genk embraced a bold vision of sustainability. Former mining wastelands morphed into lush green havens, a testament to the city's commitment to combating pollution and rejuvenating its ecosystem. Today, Genk is a hive of activity, boasting 69 vibrant community gardens teeming with life. Here, residents not only nurture their own organic crops but also play a vital role in the resurgence of bee populations. Against the backdrop of economic trials triggered by the decline of coal mining, steel industries, and the exodus of major car manufacturers, Genk's innovation has revitalized the city. I had the honor of capturing this inspiring story for Lavazza's #GoodToEarth campaign, alongside the talented Italian artist Francesco Camillo Giorgino. His brush breathed life into featureless walls, painting emotive scenes that vividly portrayed Genk's remarkable recovery. #nikon #nikonpro #nikonambassador #nikonpro #beedaybash #savethebees #pollenatorgarden
