UNICEF USAHere's the story behind the viral photo everyone is talking about. That iconic photo of Lionel Messi holding baby Lamine Yamal? It was taken by photographer Joan Monfort for a 2008 calendar created in collaboration among FC Barcelona, its foundation and Diario Sport, in support of UNICEF. Half of all calendar sales went directly to support UNICEF's work for children around the world. ⏩ Fast forward to 2026: Messi has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for over 15 years, and earlier this year, Yamal became the newest UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. These titans of the game may be competitors on the pitch, but off it they stand together #ForEveryChild. This weekend, the two will face off in the World Cup final — Messi representing Argentina, Yamal representing Spain. Who are we rooting for? You already know. Every child. 💙
