UNICEF USA"I'm terrified that I might lose her." Randa, a mother of four in #Gaza, looks at her 3-month-old baby girl, Baraa — who is fighting to survive. Right now, 1 in 5 babies in Gaza are born preterm or underweight. Nearly 11,000 pregnant women face starvation, and 17,000 more urgently need care for acute malnutrition. Their lives — and their futures — are at risk. "Gaza is now on the brink of a full-scale famine," says Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN. "People are starving not because food is unavailable, but because access is blocked, local agrifood systems have collapsed and families can no longer sustain even the most basic livelihoods." UNICEF is doing everything possible to reach families with lifesaving food, water and medicine — but the needs are immense.
