Chris HauAn entire Swiss village turned itself into a hotel🇨🇭 Welcome to Corippo, a tiny stone village in Ticino’s Verzasca Valley that was on the verge of disappearing. Back in the 1850s, around 300 people lived here. By 2019, just 9 residents remained. 😳 So, instead of letting the village become a ghost town, locals came up with a pretty incredible idea: turn its abandoned stone houses into a hotel. It’s called an albergo diffuso, or “scattered hotel,” where the rooms are spread across restored historic buildings. The hotel opened in 2022, and the village’s traditional restaurant doubles as its reception. Even crazier? No new houses have been built here in over 100 years, and the restoration was designed to preserve the village’s original character. You can stay in a centuries-old stone house, eat local Ticinese food at the village restaurant, and explore the narrow lanes and surrounding Verzasca Valley. Just a short drive away is the famous Verzasca Dam, where James Bond’s iconic bungee jump in GoldenEye was filmed. Honestly, this might be one of the coolest places to stay in Switzerland. Save this for your next trip to Switzerland! 🇨🇭 📍 Corippo, Ticino, Switzerland @Switzerland @Ticino #Corippo #Ticino #Switzerland #SwissAlps #HiddenGems
