Selesitila HarveyWhen I created this Siva, I wanted to show that dance doesn’t have to look a certain way to be beautiful. You can dance sitting down. You can dance standing up. You can dance in whatever way your body allows you to. Because dance is for everyone. And especially in Polynesian dance, the story isn’t only in the feet. It’s in your hands. It’s in your eyes. It’s in your expression. It’s in the way you move your body and connect with the music. Our hands can speak when words can’t. And I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about Siva — you don’t have to be able to do every movement perfectly to tell a story. You just have to feel it. So this is your reminder that there is always a way to move, to create, and to express yourself. Because the story is still there… even when the way we tell it looks a little different.
