Ripley’sOn what would’ve been her 100th birthday, we’re taking a look at one of Marilyn Monroe’s most legendary dresses. ✨ Few moments in pop culture history are as unforgettable as May 19, 1962, when Marilyn Monroe stepped onto the stage at Madison Square Garden to sing “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to President John F. Kennedy. But the performance wasn’t the only thing that made history. The sparkling gown Marilyn wore that night became one of the most iconic dresses ever created. Designed by Jean Louis and adorned with more than 6,000 hand-sewn rhinestones, the dress was crafted to shimmer under the spotlight, making Marilyn appear draped in liquid starlight. More than six decades later, the legendary gown continues to captivate the world. In 2016, Ripley’s Believe It or Not! acquired the dress for $4.8 million, making it the most expensive dress ever sold at auction at the time. For a limited time, you can see the dress for yourself at @Ripley’s Grand Prairie. #Ripleys #BION #RipleysBelieveItorNot #marilynmonroe
