PaigeTingeyYou’re using the rule of thirds wrong, let’s fix that! @Lightroom The rule of thirds isn’t just about putting your subject on an intersection. It’s something you can always use to help you balance visual weight. You can use it alongside all your other photography composition fundamentals to help guide where to place things in your photos to create good spacing, opposition and interesting visual tension. After you take a good photo, you then edit in a way to bring out that composition in Lightroom. My process looks like this: • A preset as a starting point • Cropping and removing distractions to refine the visual balance • Masking for auto-selecting areas and making isolated adjustments • I finish off with some brushing in the shadows or areas I want to give an extra glow Rule of thirds to start the photo, Lightroom to finish it.
