National GeographicNear the entrance to this cave, located between Albania and Greece, scientists discovered gigantic spider webs spanning more than 1,140 square feet that were created by a colony of more than 110,000 spiders. The researchers described it as “an extraordinary colonial spider community” that's part of a complex and thriving ecosystem involving the colony, midges and their aquatic larvae, and the biofilm that coats the sediment in the nearby stream.
