National GeographicThey may look like a pile of insect parts—but bone collector caterpillars are actually cleverly camouflaged critters. These rare carnivorous caterpillars are a newly described species in Hawaiʻi. Whatever they don’t eat they use to decorate silk cases that cover their bodies, which entomologists believe help them hide from spiders. In this clip, at 2x speed, one caterpillar attacks another by biting a hole in the side of its silken case, and then killing and eating it.
