Was the beauty industry your first choice? Because it definitely wasn’t mine. Life threw me a few curveballs, and somehow I fell straight into the world of lashing. One moment I was working a full-time job, and the next I was opening a beauty business and completely changing my path. Growing up, I watched my mom struggle with her salon: finances, sales, employees, marketing, work-life balance, legal stuff, all of it. As a kid, it made the beauty industry look stressful and unstable. But as I got older, I realized something important… My mom didn’t have access to the resources, support, education, or community that we have today. She was doing everything alone, without the tools she needed to run her business smoothly. I learned so much from watching her journey, and it’s a huge part of why I’m so passionate and intentional as a salon owner now. Honestly, you and I are lucky. We have social media, education, automation, mentorships, online classes, things our parents didn’t have. We truly have everything we need to build our dream beauty business. So don’t let someone else’s struggle scare you away from trying. You get to write your own story. And if I could go back, I would’ve taken my mom’s advice and gone to beauty school sooner instead of thinking it was “low paying.” I worked as a boba barista in college because I thought facials sounded boring… meanwhile my mom was right the whole time.
