Millennial In DebtI do not play games when it comes to my financial freedom and my time. I reached Coast FIRE 5 years ago which means I could stop investing and I’d reach my FIRE number ($1.7 million) by the time I reached traditional retirement age (65) But I didn’t stop because 1) I don’t want to work to 65 and 2) I wanted a bigger nest egg at retirement Fast forward 5 years and my consistent investments have peeled my retirement age back by 10 years with $2.6 million instead of $1.7. Do you have to be rich to do the same thing ? NO! But you do have to be consistent Fidelity recently reported that there are 497,000 “401K Millionaires” at their brokerage. Up 2.5% since Q1 I started investing $121 in my 403B back in 2011 and continued to contribute (increasing the percentage with every raise) for 10 years. Then after I left the classroom, I continuously maxed out my Roth IRA (4 years in a row) and contribute to my 401K and individual brokerage. Even if it was just an extra $25 or $50 here and there I invested when I could. And YES even when the market was down.
