Millennial In DebtI increased my net worth by 1100% in the last 11 years. This was a steady mix of 3 main things: 1 - Paying off my student loans — My student loan balance kept my net worth negative / low nearly the entire time I was paying them back. They were also the main cause of having a negative net worth — I just didn’t have enough assets to bring me out of the red. 2 - Investing more in the stock market through increased employer sponsored plan contributions (my 403B and later my 401K), my Roth IRA and individual brokerages. This helped me build more assets into my portfolio while I worked on paying down my largest liability (student loans) 3 - Last but certainly not least I increased my income. As a teacher I received 2-3% raises annually. I worked over time grading state tests and writing curriculum as well as selling my lesson plans / unit plans. As my income increased I maintained a similar lifestyle + kept expenses as low as possible to avoid lifestyle creep. Just because I could afford it doesn’t mean I needed it. Making more money meant keeping more money to save, invest and value spend. If you want support with any of the 3 things I did to increase my net worth doors are currently open for Cohort 3 of my 12 Week Future Millionaire Accountability Group. Doors close this Sunday and space is limited! 🔗 in b/0 If you’ve been looking for a way to work 1:1 with me this is it!
