Each year in the fall and winter months, International Bird Rescue experiences an “Oiled Bird Season” as migrating birds like this common murre pass through naturally occurring oil seeps, contaminating their feathers in the process. After they are washed with a low concentration of Dawn dish soap and clean water by experienced staff, they are placed in a protective pen equipped with grooming dryers, where they begin to preen their feathers back into place. The complete realignment of feathers in a tight overlapping pattern creates a naturally waterproof seal. Once healthy and waterproof, they are released back into the wild. #murre #bird #animal #wildlife #video #footage #reel #PhotoArk
