Joel SartoreTwo four-day- old Macqueen’s bustard chicks inspect their surroundings during a Photo Ark shoot at the National Avian Research Center in Abu Dhabi, UAE. In the wild, these birds would leave the nest immediately after hatching but would remain close to mom, following her as she snatches up insects and passes them to her chicks. While it only takes about a month for chicks to fledge, they stick by mom’s side for several months until they are ready to venture out on their own. Once hunted to near-extinction, international conservation efforts like captive breeding have been made working alongside local governments to bring this species back from the brink. #bustards #chicks #birds #animals #wildlife #video #footage #reel #PhotoArk
