Joel SartoreMeet the New Guinea blue-tongued skink. If you watch closely you’ll catch a glimpse of its bright blue tongue! This color serves primarily as a warning signal to predators, but it also aids in communication between skinks. Because their tongue can be spotted over longer distances, it can ward off unwanted skink visitors, act as a way for members of the same family to spot each other, and may even make individuals more attractive to potential mates. #WorldLizardDay #skink #tongue #blue #reptile #animal #wildlife #video #footage #reel #PhotoArk
