Joel SartoreThis juvenile sandhill crane was stranded in a Christmas day blizzard in Northern Iowa last year, where it was found lying in a snow drift by a passing motorist. The young crane was so covered in ice and snow the motorist drove past it once, wondered about the odd shape in the snow, and then turned around and drove right back. There she discovered a bird that didn’t struggle, could not stand, and was near death. The crane was eventually taken to Iowa Bird Rehabilitation (IBR) for medical care. IBR is a non-profit that provides care for songbirds, waterfowl, gamebirds, shorebirds, and small raptors. Since its founding in 2012, IBR has taken in over 9,000 birds, admitting over 1,800 in 2022 alone! #crane #sandhill #bird #animal #wildlife #video #reel #footage #PhotoArk
