Jenny TingBetween the tragedies of the Lindsey Clancy case and the sudden passing of Hayden Panettiere, the topic of #MaternalMentalHealth has been dominating social media... and even though it's great it's being discussed more, it's still just highlighting how the system and loved ones fail mothers. Many of us moms are struck so deeply by these stories of PPD, PPA, OCD, etc. because we see ourselves in them. Although we had different endings to our stories, that doesn't make the lack of support okay. So many mothers struggle quietly through postpartum because there is still shame attached to admitting, 'I'm not okay." As if these illnesses are something we can control. It can be terrifying to tell the truth about what postpartum really looked like. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. And you deserve help before you reach a breaking point, not after. Check on the mothers in your life. Keep asking even when she says she's "fine." And keep talking about maternal mental health long after these stories disappear from our feeds. Moms deserve better. #postpartum #postpartummentalhealth #PPD #motherhood
