Siento una profunda admiración por Tania: su música transmite la resiliencia, la transformación, la memoria y la identidad de su viaje de Cuba a Estados Unidos, al tiempo que trasciende cualquier lugar o momento concreto para hablar de algo que es universal. Para mí, esto es una de las cosas más poderosas que la música puede hacer hoy en día: crear un espacio donde puedan encontrarse diferentes generaciones, historias y experiencias. Mahler y Tania hablan desde momentos muy distintos, pero entre ellos se establece una hermosa conversación, y es un honor para nosotros compartirla con ustedes. – This week, my New York Philharmonic and I will bring Tania León’s Imágenes Mestizas to the stage for its world premiere, alongside Mahler’s Fifth Symphony. I have such a deep admiration for Tania - her music carries the resilience, transformation, memory, and identity of her journey from Cuba to the United States, while also reaching far beyond any one place or time, to speak to something that is universal. For me, this is one of the most powerful things music can do today: create a space where different generations, histories, and experiences can meet.
