Christine ChangSarah and I decided to start Glow Recipe as long time friends, after a post-work wine and sheetmasking session. We wanted to create a brand that captured the magic of Korean skincare we learned from our mothers and grandmothers. At the time, Korean beauty was often misunderstood, reduced to “10-step routines” or “exotic” ingredients. But we knew there was so much more to share: the rituals, the textures, the deep skin-first philosophy. We bootstrapped everything, packing orders by hand and cold-emailing editors, growing the business in a way that felt intentional and sustainable. And we went against the grain a lot. We chose to spotlight indie brands doing incredible things instead of leaning on big names. We kept making educational content because we believed Korean skincare was more than just product, it was about approach, mindset, and joy. When it came time to launch our own line, the one you see in Sephora today, we took our time. We worked with our labs in Korea, to create formulas from scratch that were both effective and sensorial. It hasn’t always been easy, but building something from the ground up and seeing it embraced by our global community? That’s been the glow of a lifetime ❤️ #entrepreneur #startup #founderstory #femalefounder #sharktank #koreanskincare @Glow Recipe ib: @Rebecca Minkoff
